It's Official! Your Magical Adventure with Noa Begins Today
Hello and welcome to the world through the eyes of 3-year old Noa, the precocious main character of Demia Doggette’s new children’s book, The Chronicles of a Girl Named Noa: My Glorious Skin. Inspired by true events, The Chronicles of a Girl Named Noa: My Glorious Skin tells the story of Noa’s struggle with understanding why her skin doesn’t look like her mother’s. As a deeply melanated woman raising a lighter-complected daughter, Doggette knew that there would be challenges they would face as she grew older and became more aware of what made her unique in this world, including what made her different in her own family. The book takes readers through Noa’s journey of self-love as she learns how to appreciate the beauty of the skin tones of friends and family of various backgrounds without forgetting the value of her own.
“No matter the color in which you’ve been graced, your skin
is your glory that you must embrace!
On the outside we’re different, each color unique, but the inside is what matters.
That’s what makes us complete!”
While this sweet and encouraging rhyme that is interwoven throughout the book was written for children, Doggette believes that the message will help people of all ages see the beauty in their own skin and everyone else's. Doggette believes that her and her daughter’s experience will help other parents find simple and effective ways to teach their children the beauty of diversity and how to appreciate other’s unique features without devaluing their own. This book is actually the first installment of an upcoming series of real life events that Noa and her mommy go through together as she matures and learns more about herself and the world around her. We invite you to welcome Noa into your home and allow her journey through childhood to serve as a form of support and encouragement for your children and your own experiences as a parent.
