Hi! I’m Noa’s mom, but you can call me Aunt May.

A few years ago Noa asked me a question that I knew was coming sooner rather than later.  You see, my skin is the color of your favorite dark chocolate dessert, and Noa’s skin color is caramel.  So, her question to me was, “Why is your skin dark and mine isn’t?”

I knew this question was coming because Noa is my Mini-Me, and she wants to look like me and to do everything I do. While a baby in her crib, she would stand up and watch at attention as I put on my makeup.  Even though she is only five years old, Noa likes to wear my clothes, my high-heeled shoes, get her nails done, and she even gets into my lipstick when I am not looking.

As I pondered the best way to explain the answer to this question, I thought the best explanation would be to take her on an illustrative journey that would demonstrate the answer in vivid words and colorful pictures.  I also knew that with the beautiful mosaic of skin colors around the world, and the commonality of inter-racial households in our global society, many other moms are frequently asked this question.

So, here we are- The Chronicles of a Girl Name Noa: My Glorious Skin.  These are chronicles because it is just the first of many other books to answer questions asked by a feisty, fun, and spunky little girl named Noa.

We invite you to jump on the path and enjoy this journey with us.

Hi! My name is Noa.

Everyone describes me as a feisty, fun, and spunky little girl, and I most definitely am.  I think of myself as caring, kind, and an awesome big sister to my little brother, Papi.

My favorite things to do are swim in the ocean, help my mommy cook, and play dress-up.  Dressing up is so much fun when I put on my mom’s high-heeled shoes, wear one of my many princess dresses (my favorite is princess Tiana), and put on my mom’s lipstick.

In September I started kindergarten, and I’ve had so much fun making new friends. My favorite subject is art because it gives me the opportunity to be creative and use my mind in a visual way.

Three fun facts about me:

  • I was born in Houston, Texas

  • I have a very strong vibrato when I sing

  • I am in the 100th percentile for my height, which means I am tall for my age
